Corrective Lenses

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? John 8:31-33

The men, who did not believe, began to place Jesus on trial in their hearts. We can sense their confidence in the argument. It appears that they felt they had no problem, or any need to change. They thought they were free men. “They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free”
Were these guys not paying attention in Mrs. Clark’s History class? Did they forget about their people being in bondage in Egypt for 400 years? How about the Assyrians? The Philistines? I believe nearly the entire book of Judges deals with their time of bondage. How about their current political environment? They were forcefully subjected to Roman rule. How could they not see their situation clearly? Their problem was sin. Sin blinds us to what is really going on. Sin causes us to maintain that heart attitude that we’re doing fine, but the real picture is that were not seeing correctly. Unfortunately, you and I can also have that same problem. Thinking we’re fine, yet areas of compromise will impair our spiritual vision. This is why Jesus still speaks to His believers and exhorts to continue in His Word. It is our only chance to live free.
All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 1 Timothy 3:16-17
Let us not neglect our opportunity to obtain and maintain a 20/20. Continue in His Word. Read it, Study it and Live it!
