hn 19:23 “Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also [his] coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.”
Jhn 19:24 ” They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.”
This robe or vesture that the Roman soldiers cast lots over, was a valuable garment, having no seams. This was how the garments were to be made and worn by the high priests in Exodus chapter 28. Jesus was and in the Ultimate High Priest! I came across a worship song that I used to play in college by Wes King. It speaks of the beautiful character of Jesus. “The Robe” was inspired by a sermon read by Spurgeon which Wes read while in college.
